Crosses

A cross has a horizontal bar intersecting a vertical bar. The bars don't have to meet in the middle to be called a cross. A Christian cross, on the other hand, represents the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. However, we call a cross with the body of Christ hanging on the cross as a crucifix.

A cross does not have to be made of wood. It can be made of marble, cement, iron, wire, copper, brass or other materials.

Antique crosses were made more than a 100 years ago. Vintages crosses were said to have been made 20 years in the past.

There are so many beautiful antique jewellery crosses, antique wooden wall crosses, antique silver finish crucifix, antique wrought iron crosses, and other crosses that are available today. You can find a large cross, a gold tone metal cross, a cross with crystal rhinestones, and antique wrought iron crosses even in the most unusual places.

There are so many makers of beautiful crosses, especially in Jerusalem, England, and Ireland. The Victorian era produced many beautiful antique crosses.

Kinds of Crosses
There are so many crosses that we see today. Here are some of the kinds of crosses:

Latin Cross: The two beams meet at a higher part of the vertical beam. This represents the True Cross that Jesus died in.

St. Benedict Cross or Crucifix. This crucifix has a St. Benedict medal on the middle of the intersecting bars. The medal has inscribed Latin words to ward off evil spirits.

Processional Cross: It has a small cross on top with a long handle. This is used for processions to lead the faithful.

Papal Cross: The horizontal beam is like a bent log. And it is attached to a staff. This was first used by Pope Paul VI. Other popes then used this crucifix. The bent log represents the heavy weight of our sins, which Jesus carried on the way to Calvary.
