18ct gold Retro era straw coloured Ceylonese sapphire ring

Here is an absolutely stunning 18ct gold Retro era straw coloured Ceylonese sapphire ring that is destined to always stand out and be admired every time that it is worn.

Hand made in 18ct rose and yellow gold in France in the 1940's, jewellery of the Retro era can be easily characterised by large bold designs that were often made in rose gold. 18ct rose gold has such a wonderful warm tone to it which can be seen in this ring and then the claws are made in 18ct yellow gold for a contrasting difference and to highlight the natural straw colour from the sapphire.

Sitting proudly in the centre, the straw coloured sapphire measures an impressive 14.30 carats and has been independently certified by Gem Studies Laboratory as an unheat treated natural Ceylonese sapphire. Heat treating gemstones has been done for centuries and is more common than not with sapphires and rubies, however to find one that has not undergone any treatment makes it that much more special and unique.

GSL Straw sapphire certificate

Measuring 15.6mm wide at the top, from the side you can also view the wonderful hand made detail that went into making this ring and shows the true quality of the jeweller who produced this ring.

Retro jewellery has become so popular and sought after in recent years, and with this Retro sapphire ring, it is so easy to see why.

Description
18ct gold Retro era straw coloured Ceylonese sapphire ring

A brief history on Retro jewellery.

Retro describes jewellery produced between the later part of the 1930’s to the 1940’s, and also includes World War II. The styles and designs of the Art Deco jewellery still influenced designers in this era.

The retro movement was can be considered to be started by the head of Christie’s jewellery department, Francois Curiel. He named the era for customers who requested jewellery with the Retro look. His realization of this era brought great popularity and prestige to retro jewellery, resulting in the increase in value and price to these designs. Retro jewellery can be easily characterised by large chunky somewhat over the top designs in not only brooches and bracelets but also rings. The use of rose gold was also quite common even in 18ct.
Large gem set brooches with a combination of such stones such as rubies and diamonds in a floral motif where not uncommon.

The Ceylonese sapphire in this ring is unheat treated making this Retro ring even more special and unique.
