Antique demantoid garnet and rose cut diamond brooch

Garnets come in such a vast range of colours, from the deep burgundy-red and purple-red colour seen in pyrope and almandine garnets, to the orange spessartite and hessonite garnets to the rarest of them all, the green demantoid garnets that are in this lovely antique brooch here.

Made in 9 carat rose gold in Chester in 1897, the rose gold has the most beautiful colour that compliments the elegant flowing design of the brooch. From end to end the brooch measures 42.4mm across by 11.2mm wide in the centre, and the incorporates an elegant floral design that adds so much charm to the brooch.

Set with two rose cut diamonds, the star of this brooch is the vibrant demantoid garnet that sits proudly in the centre. Displaying such an intense green, this garnet stands out magically against the rose gold and will always be admired from near or far.

Perfect for any occasion, this antique brooch is as elegant today as when it was made.

Description

Antique demantoid garnet and rose cut diamond brooch

This antique brooch was made in Chester in 1897. Set with two rose cut diamonds, the rose cut diamond is one of the earliest cuts of diamonds that dates back as far as the 1400's. The rose cut diamond originated in India, and was then perfected in the diamond cutting workshops in Antwerp and Amsterdam.

Garnets come in a range of colours from the commonly seen burgundy-red through to orange and the rarest of them all, the green demantoid garnet. While there is another green garnet, the tsavorite garnet which is also spectacular, the demantoid garnet is the most rare and highly prized.
