Platinum Art Deco necklace and brooch

Art Deco jewellery from the 1920's to the 1940's created a style of jewellery that is still revered the world over and here is what can only be described as a breathtaking piece of Art Deco jewellery at its finest.

Made in Holland in The Hague in 1932, this entire piece is made from platinum. Platinum became abundant in Art Deco jewellery post World War One and is loved for its pure white colour and ability to be drawn into a fine wire while being able to retain the strength needed to set in this case diamonds amongst it.

However this is not simply an Art Deco diamond necklace. This alone would be wonderful, however the ingenuity that went into creating this masterpiece of jewellery nearly a century ago is amazing.
When worn as a necklace it sits perfectly on the neck and will make an woman walk tall and proud. However thanks to the design, the pendant can be removed by its original "key" which is stored under the velvet cover and once removed have the brooch fitting put on.

This then takes this from an Art Deco diamond necklace to an Art Deco diamond brooch that can be worn in the same direction as when it is on the pendant or horizontal.

The necklace is set with 25 diamonds that total 0.47 carats, and the detachable brooch section is set with 83 diamonds that totals 3.20 carats bringing the total diamond weight to an impressive 3.67 carats.
All of the diamonds have been expertly milgrain set and the brooch has that wonderful geometric design typical of the Art Deco period.

The velvet lined box is all original and the front plate has been engraved in the original hand writing style and translates from Dutch to English as " To my dearest cherubin (Angel) in warm admiration in serious friendship from Marie van Bijland. The Hague 11th October 1932".

Without a doubt this is one of the most impressive pieces of Art Deco jewellery to be found and one that is simply breathtaking and exquisitely well made and crafted.
A true treasure from the Art Deco period.
