Vintage Rolex 1601 with original box, papers and swing tag

Not only has the Rolex 1601 become such a sought after model in recent years, it is also the small features particularly to the dial and hands that separates one from another, and here is a lovely vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust that is fitted with the original Rolex leaf hands.

Made in 1965, the hands fitted are called leaf hands and differ from the more common stick hands in that these have a lovely taper at the ends as opposed to being a straight rectangle shape. It is this subtle difference that really adds so much character to the watch as does the dial. While there is foxing on the dial, which can be seen as light spots, it is of course completely original and it would be such a shame to replace or repaint it, as original dials are worth so much more than one that has been restored and the foxing on this dial adds to the charm and character of the watch.

The stainless steel case measures the iconic 36mm in size and is fitted with the 18 carat white gold bezel, and this is fitted on the Rolex Jubilee band. This is the earlier style of band and it does display flex which is consistent with its age.While it is now often seen to have a vintage Rolex of this age with a newer Rolex band in tighter condition, and this can of course always be done, we have kept it all original as not only is this a great vintage Rolex from the 1960's, but it also has its original papers, box and swing tag.

With the papers dated for the 30th April 1965, the case back is stamped "III/64" denoting the case back being made in the third quarter of 1964, and it is completely normal and indeed common to find a vintage Rolex with a case back made earlier than the papers as the entire watch may have been assembled and finished in late 1964 and indeed not sold until a few months later.

Powered by the earlier 26 jewelled automatic Rolex calibre 1560 which has a power reserve of forty-two hours, it has also been serviced and comes with our twelve month warranty.

This is a truly exciting and wonderful example of a vintage Rolex 1601 that will just keep getting better looking as the years go by.
