Antique gold seal with a secret locket compartment
Going back as far as Roman times, after a letter was sealed with wax, the writer would stamp the still warm wax with his or her seal to prevent the wrong person from opening the letter, as once broken, the wax seal could not be used again. Remaining popular all through the Georgian and Victorian periods right up to the Edwardian era, the look of seals are always so unique to one another and look wonderful on a necklace where they are commonly worn today. And this one is even more special, as it is not only a very attractive seal, but it also contains a secret locket compartment set into the base. Made in 9 carat rose gold in the late 1800's, the design itself is so attractive and measures 3.2cm tall and the base 2.2cm by 1.8cm. The base is set with carnelian which has a lovely colour to it that is complimented so well by the rose gold, and once people see that there is a locket under, it will truly amaze them. As exciting today as when it was made, this antique seal locket will always be such a wonderful talking point. Stock# ES9601 Circa: 1890 $1,650 (On hold Mrs B.B)
