Antique silver, rose and green gold earrings made in the 1890’s
These earrings are just divine and are sure to always be admired and commented on. Dating from the late 1800's, these earrings are made in sterling silver and highlighted with both rose and green gold. Gold can be alloyed with other precious metals resulting in different colours being produced. Rose gold is made by primarily adding copper to the gold when being alloyed resulting in the lovely warm tone to it, and today green gold is made by adding silver to the gold, however the green colour is more a soft green-yellow colour. Years ago cadmium was added resulting in a stronger colour, and while never a strong green such as yellow or white gold, the tone of green in antique pieces is more pronounced and is used perfectly here to highlight the leaves. The combination of both rose and green gold set against the silver really makes these earrings stand out and measuring 13.7mm across by 20.7mm or 34.4mm to the top of the new sterling silver shepherd hooks that have been put on, these earrings sit so well just below the earlobe and are so comfortable to wear during the day and well into the evening. No matter the occasion, these antique earrings are just divine. Stock# ES8655 Circa: 1890 $Sold.
Antique silver, rose and green gold earrings made in 1893
Here are a pair of antique silver, rose and green gold earrings that were made in 1893 and are perfect for day or night. Gold can be made in colours other than its natural bright yellow, such as rose or pink gold, and this is made by primarily adding copper to the gold when being alloyed resulting in the lovely warm tone to it. While not common today, modern green gold is made by adding silver to the gold, with the green colour is more a soft green-yellow colour. However during the late Victorian period of the 1890’s when these earrings were made, cadmium was added resulting in a stronger colour. While never a strong green such as yellow or white gold, the tone of green in antique pieces is more pronounced and used here highlights the leaves in the floral design perfectly. The earrings measure 11.7mm wide by 16.9mm or 27.1mm to the top of the hooks. The original hooks were quite thin so we have replaced them with thicker and stronger sterling silver hooks. With such an attractive design on the front, these are a fabulous pair of antique earrings that are perfect for any woman of any age. Stock# ES8410 Hallmarked: Birmingham 1893 $Sold.
