Antique rolled gold Waltham pocket watch made in 1916.
Its incredible to think that you can hold an antique pocket watch in your hand, one that has a mechanical movement that is working perfectly and still in wonderful condition all for under $1,000 such as this antique rolled gold Waltham pocket watch made in 1916. This full gents size pocket watch was made in a rolled gold case which measures 51.5mm across by 70.6mm from the bottom to the top of the bow. Rolled gold, not to be confused with gold plating which is much less durable and long lasting, is a process where the gold itself is layered over a base metal then bonded together using heat and pressure and made into various items such as jewellery and of course pocket watch cases. The major advantage it has over gold plating is that because it is gold on the outside, it can be both engraved and polished, whereas this can not be done with gold plating. This case displays an engine turned pattern which has such a smooth and sleek feel to the touch. With the original dial displaying numerals, it also has in red the five minute markers on the outer edge as well as the sub-seconds at the bottom. With very sleek hour and minute hands, this is a great dial that is still so easy to read.
