Here is a very beautiful antique Georgian mourning ring made in 1820 that has the most beautiful hand carved setting combined with the history associated with mourning rings and one that sits so well on the finger. While made to remember the passing of a loved one, mourning jewellery should never be looked upon as morbid as it was a lovely way to remember when someone died in a time when photography and other recording medias were of course not yet invented and in this ring is not only the plaited hair on the font but an inscription on the back tying everything together. On the underside of the ring, it is hand engraved with "Anna Sheppard ob 20 Feb 1820 At 82" which also considering that this was nearly 200 years ago showed that she lived a very long life in a time without modern medicine. Measuring 12.8mm across by 11.4mm, the way the band is also engraved shows how much time and attention went into making this ring and how good the jewellers of this time were. This is such a beautiful antique mourning ring from the Georgian era that is so beautiful and poignant. Stock# T577 Circa: 1820. $Sold.
