Here is an absolutely divine antique guilloché enamel and pearl pendant with a locket on the back that was made in the early 1900's that looks amazing thanks to the vibrant red enamel. To begin with, this enamelling was created using a special technique resulting in what is called guilloché enamel. This is one of the most popular of all the enamel techniques and it is so easy to see why. Produced by a very precise and repetitive pattern that is engraved into an underlying material such as gold or silver, it then has the enamel applied over the top and after the firing process is complete, it is polished back to a high lustre revealing the engraved pattern below the surface. The red is so vibrant on this piece and will certainly stand out no matter where or when it was worn. With a very elegant surround set with forty seven pearls, there is a cluster of nine more pearls in the centre to add to the charm and character of the piece. Then turning it over reveals a section for a photo of a loved one that will then make this pendant even more personal and special. Made in 9 carat rose gold, it measures 33.4mm across by 42.4mm or 47.2mm to the very top of the bail for the chain to pass through. Simply perfect for any occasion, this is a wonderful antique pendant and locket that is like no other. Stock# ES8528 Circa: 1900 $Sold.
Absolutely divine, this antique sterling silver, rose and green gold locket made in 1882 will always capture the eye and be made even more personal once photos of loved ones are placed inside making this such a special and personal locket. Made in the Victorian era, the sterling silver locket not only has a very beautiful design on the front, but aspects of it are highlighted with both yellow and rose gold. While most of us are aware with rose, white and yellow gold, to produce white and rose - as well as green gold - other metals are alloyed with the gold while it is molten resulting in different colours. Rose gold is made by primarily adding copper to the gold when being alloyed resulting in the lovely warm tone to it, and today green gold is made by adding silver to the gold, however the green colour is more a soft green-yellow colour. Years ago however when this locket was made, cadmium was added resulting in a stronger colour. While never a strong green such as yellow or white gold, the tone of green in antique pieces is more pronounced and used here highlights the leaves in the floral design on the front. With the locket measuring a nice large 37.5m across by 41.5mm or 56mm to the top of the bail for the chain to pass through, this is a locket that is so easy and comfortable to wear all the time, day or night. Here is a truly exquisite diamond and pearl double sided antique pendant with hand painted portraits on ivory that gets more and more beautiful the closer you look at it, and is a real testament to what the jewellers of the Victorian era could produce. So beautifully hand made in 15 carat rose gold and silver where the diamonds are set, silver was used to set the diamonds into during this time until the early 1900’s as until then white gold was not yet invented and platinum, although already discovered, was not used in jewellery until around the same time as white gold. Not only are there rose cut diamonds set on the top in what can only be described as the most gorgeous setting, as well as more rose cut diamonds at the very bottom, but looking close at the portrait of the young lady, there are ten more rose cut diamonds including the ones is a very sweet heart design. In total there are sixty five rose cut diamonds with a total weight of 0.78 carats, as well as seventeen natural pearls to compliment the beauty of this piece. Then when you look into the eyes of both the young lady and the baby, this also exemplifies the quality of the pendant as these have been hand painted to the highest standard complimenting the piece even further. And on the back of each portrait are the names "Ellen Lorna Fielden, when 18" and "Cecil M. Fielden, 1 year old". After extensive research we have found that not only were they brother and sister, but they were actually twins, both being born on the 30th September, 1854 in Yorkshire. With Ellen being 18 years old when painted, this would put the piece at being made around 1872 which is exactly in the style and era of this pendant. All of this makes this pendant so much more special and magical and a real way to hold a peace of history in your hand. Measuring 36.5mm across by 65mm or 75mm to the very top of the bail, this is by far one of the most outstanding antique pendants that you will lever come across, and an absolute treasure to admire from near or far.
