Art Deco sapphire and diamond bracelet made in the 1930’s
The discovery of King Tutankhamen's tomb by Howard Carter in Egypt in 1922 came at a perfect time as the "new" Art Deco period was blossoming, and the discoveries made in Egypt influenced the styles and designs of the time, resulting in what is referred to as "Egyptian revival jewellery". And this styling can be seen here in this very elegant Art Deco sapphire and diamond bracelet made in the 1930's.
Entirely made in platinum, the advantage of platinum over white gold is that as it is the purest of all the metals used in jewellery, it remains a pure white colour as well as having the other distinct advantage of being able to drawn into a fine wire all the while retaining its strength.
In the centre is a 0.40 carat European cut diamond and then surrounding this diamond as well as continuing down the band, there are forty six single cut diamonds that total 0.82 carats as well as twenty eight more European cut diamonds that total 2.24 carats. All of these diamonds come together total a dazzling 3.46 carats which certainly captures the light and the eyes.
And then there is the very clever use of the sapphires that highlight the design so much more and truly elevates it to another level. In total there are twenty two sapphires that total 0.68 carats. These sapphires add the perfect colour to the pure white of the platinum as well as the sparkle from the diamonds, and the amount of time and care that would have gone into making this all those years ago would have been immense.
Measuring 18.7cm in length at the centre it measures 8.7mm wide and tapers down to 3.7mm at the end where there is a very ingenious and secure catch.
This bracelet is absolutely stunning and the epitome of fine quality Art Deco jewellery.
