This is a very attractive example of a hardstone cameo ring dating from the 1860’s, with such detail to the carving.
Carved out of a piece of onyx, the carving displays both the black and the white, and being onyx, is a lot harder than the traditional shell cameo.
Carving shell into a cameo requires great skill, however to carve it out of a material much harder than shell such as this onyx requires a great deal more of experience and expertise.
The setting if made in 15ct gold and has a nice smooth band that compliments the setting of this cameo perfectly.
Dating from the 1860’s, this cameo ring is just perfect in all respects, and the quality is superb.
