1940's era Retro smoky quartz ring

Here is a totally fabulous 1940's era Retro smoky quartz ring that set in rose gold compliments not only the wonderful hue from the smoky quartz but looks fantastic on the skin.
Retro jewellery is easily identified by somewhat over the top designs that although often angular like the earlier Art Deco period used large bolder designs such as can be seen here in this ring.
Set with a large 11.50 carat smoky quartz stone that is in the same quartz family as amethyst and citrine, the use of smokey quartz works so well set into the gorgeous tone from the rose gold.
With wonderful stepped facets on the smoky quartz that matches perfectly with the stepped design in the ring, the top of the ring itself measures 18.5mm by 15.7mm from left to right and makes such a fabulous statement on the finger.
This Retro smoky quartz ring not only looks fabulous on the finger, but will always be admired for its wonderful geometric design and use of rose gold as well as the stunning smoky quartz.

Description

The Retro period resulted in some fabulous bold designs being used in jewellery as can be seen here in this 1940's era Retro smoky quartz ring.
A brief history on Retro jewellery.
Retro describes jewellery produced between the later part of the 1930’s to the 1940’s, and also includes World War II. The styles and designs of the Art Deco jewellery still influenced designers in this era.

The retro movement was can be considered to be started by the head of Christie’s jewellery department, Francois Curiel. He named the era for customers who requested jewellery with the Retro look. His realization of this era brought great popularity and prestige to retro jewellery, resulting in the increase in value and price to these designs. Retro jewellery can be easily characterised by large chunky somewhat over the top designs in not only brooches and bracelets but also rings. The use of rose gold was also quite common even in 18ct.
Large gem set brooches with a combination of such stones such as rubies and diamonds in a floral motif where not uncommon.
