Without a doubt, one of the most sought after vintage Rolex models would have to be the highly coveted Rolex Explorer I 1016, and here is a fantastic model dating from 1966.
With its iconic 3,6,9 dial and those absolutely gorgeous Mercedes style hands, the matte dial and hands are all original and have not been re-lumed or replaced and have achieved that wonderful patina that is so sought after by collectors. So many vintage Rolex watches have either their dial and hands replaced, or re-painted, so finding one that is not only all original, but also in superb condition makes this watch even more exciting.
Then it is also fitted on its original stainless steel Rolex Oyster band that feels so comfortable on the wrist. So many of these early 1016 watches have later Rolex Oyster bands fitted, which is easy to spot, as this one has the original rivet style on the outside and earlier style clasp. While there is nothing inherently wrong with having a later band, finding one that is all original makes this watch even more special.
The watch is powered by the 26 jewelled automatic Rolex calibre 1570 that has just been serviced by our own in-house watchmaker who himself used to work for Rolex, and this watch comes complete with our twelve month warranty. Having our own watchmaker on site in our brand new state of the art watchmaking workshop, allows us to be able to service the watches all on site without having to send them interstate or overseas which is the trend lately. Not only are we able to service our watches, but please bring your watch or pocket watch in for us to provide you with a free quote to service it.
Even after more than 50 years have passed, this is still a fantastic looking Rolex that will just keep looking better and better as the years go by.
