Antique 15 carat kookaburra brooch by Duggin, Shappere and Co.

Duggin, Shappere and Co were one of Australia’s most prolific and famous jewellery firms starting in Melbourne in 1896, with their jewellery so highly regarded, and this has continued even more in recent years thanks to the collectability and desirability of early Australian jewellery, as well as the wonderful flora and fauna that was often used in their jewellery as can be seen here in this wonderful antique brooch.

Made in 15 carat gold in the early 1900’s, this gorgeous brooch is set with natural seed pearls and turquoise and was set perfectly to highlight the wings, tail and head as well as being set with a cabochon garnet for the eye.

Perched majestically on a branch, the brooch measures 31.2mm across by 33.6mm and is fitted with a safety chain for added security.

Destined to always be commented on and admired, this is a wonderful example of early Australian jewellery that defines our wonderful and unique fauna.
