Antique Australian garnet brooch locket

$3,300.00

Although much of the early Australian jewellery of the 19th and 20th Centuries were not often stamped or marked by the jewellers who made them, there was often such a characteristic style and design that is so typical of the era, and this certainly applies to this lovely antique brooch.

Dating from the 1880’s, it was also made in 15 carat gold which is typical of English and Australian jewellers, and the colour of this gold has such a lovely warm tone that sits somewhere between a rose and a soft yellow that makes it look so beautiful set on any outfit.

Designed with leaves that are so typical of early Australian jewellery of the 19th Century, in the centre it is set with six rhodolite garnets that have a delicate purple-pink hue.

Then to add to the charm and character of the brooch, below is a lovely tassel that completes the look of this magnificent brooch.

And then to complete this brooch and making it even more special, on the reverse is a locket compartment to add a photo.

Measuring 42mm across by 66mm, even after 140 years, not only is this brooch in wonderful condition, but it is still as beautiful and elegant as when it was made.
