Wilhelm (William) Schmidt (1845- 1938) was a German who lived in England and made his name as a carver of precious opals, and here we have a ring that has been attributed to him.
Made in the early 1900's, this amazing carved opal ring, shows the form of a bird in the most wonderful blue hues.
Even the ring itself is wonderful with the simple, yet very elegant setting with the band split on each side.
The carved opal measures 1.65cm by 1.2cm, and is simply amazing to admire.
This is one example of an antique opal ring like no others.
