Time and strike meaning for a clock.
Many people call the time and strike on a clock the "chime", but the correct terminology for a clock that sounds out the hours and half hour is a time and strike function.
Put simply, this means that on the hour, the clock will strike or "chime" how many hours it is for example at 5 o'clock, it will strike five times. Furthermore it will also strike once on the half hour regardless of what time it is. So at 2:30 it will strike once, and for 10:30 it too will strike the once to let you know that it is half past the hour.
