Antique Japonisme photo locket
$1,450.00
Japonisme is a French term that was given to Western art in the 19th Century when the ports of Japan were opened to foreign trade. Many artists took influence from the Japanese woodblock prints by people such as Hokusai and Hiroshige.
This was reflected in paintings by such artists as Vincent Van Gogh and Edgar Degas, as well as ceramics, clothing and of course jewellery such as this beautiful locket dating from the 1890’s.
Made in sterling silver, the front of the locket has the most charming and detailed work of two birds, a fish and the Japanese “Rising Sun”. This is a stunning piece of jewellery that is a true work of art just as much it is a locket. Not only will this be a wonderful conversation starter, but will surprise so many when they discover that it is well over a century old, yet is still so remarkable and fashionable.
Measuring 29mm across by 35.5mm, or 51.3mm to the top of the bail, inside it will easily hold two photos that once placed inside will make this locket even more personal and special to the wearer.
This is magnificent antique locket that is destined to always be admired.
