Muff chains were very popular especially during the Victorian era and were used to attach the fur muff (hand warmer) to a chain and are still as popular today as a long and fabulous chain.
This particular one was made around 1880 and is made up of a divine link with 24 long fancy links that measure 1.7cm in length.
The chain is made of 9ct gold and measures an incredible 136cm in length and is fitted with its original swivel which can be used today to hold a locket or something similar.
Antique muff chains are becoming quite scarce to find in their original length as many are being shortened into 2 or 3 necklaces so finding an original length one is simply wonderful.
