Antique natural pearl necklace made in the Victorian era
$6,950.00
This antique necklace was made in the 1870’s and is just spectacular from near or far.
Typical of the work by early Australian jewellers, it was made in 15 carat gold that has achieved such a wonderful patina combined with beautiful work and detail to the gold itself.
And then the necklace is highlighted with natural pearls. Whereas today pearls are produced by being cultured, these pearls are completely natural and this is made even more amazing by the fact that it is estimated that a natural pearl is produced in between 1 in 5,000 to 1 in 10,000 oysters.
With a beautiful design of the chain draping elegantly along the necklace, this piece sits so beautifully on the neckline and will no doubt always be admired.
Measuring 41cm when laid out from end to end, this is one of the most beautiful and elegant necklaces that you could ever hope to wear.

Antique natural pearl necklace made in the Victorian era
This antique pearl necklace was made in the 1870’s. Typical of early Australian jewellery, it is set with natural pearls as opposed to later cultured pearls.
Natural pearls are those that have been created with out having the oyster seeded by man and is the by-product of an irritant such as a grain of sand, entering the oyster. Over the months and years, the oyster will build up a layer of nacre over this irritant, resulting in a beautiful natural pearl being produced. It is estimated that between 1 in 5,000 to 1 in 10,000 oysters will produce a natural pearl.
