Antique opal and diamond ring made in 1896

When opals were first discovered in South Australia in 1849 this started a rush and followed shortly after with more discoveries in New South Wales and Queensland resulting in Australia quickly becoming known as the home of the world's best opals - a knowledge that is still regarded today.
So it was no wonder that the English loved our Australian opals and made many beautiful pieces of jewellery from them such as this delightful antique opal and diamond ring.

Made in 18ct yellow gold in Birmingham 1896, the ring is set with three solid opals each separated by 4 old European cut diamonds.
These diamonds total 0.32 carats and sparkle magnificently.

From left to right where one opal finishes across to the end of the other it measures 17.9mm by 8.2mm wide at the centre and this ring certainly looks so good on any finger.

With solid Australian opals, delightful antique diamonds and a beautiful 18ct yellow gold setting, this is a very attractive example of an antique opal and diamond ring for any occasion and finger.
