From every angle, this antique ruby and diamond ring is just spectacular and is made all the more wonderful by being set with an unheated ruby that has the most incredible colour.
Centuries ago, people discovered that if you put a sapphire or ruby into a fire it will improve its colour and clarity, and people have been heat treating sapphires and rubies ever since for this reason. This treatment is worldwide accepted as a normal treatment and not deceiving in any way and is accepted as a standard treatment for sapphires and rubies as it remains stable and does not damage the stone. However not only is this ruby certified as being non heat treated, but being over 1 carat in size makes it even more wonderful as does the truly fabulous colour and clarity that it exhibits.
The colour of this ruby is just amazing and when seen in natural light it somehow looks even more incredible and will no doubt always be admired from near or far.
Highlighted by one mine cut diamond set on each side, these come together to that total 1.08 carats and highlight the ruby perfectly. Antique mine cut diamonds have become so popular in recent years and have all the charm and character of being cut by hand all those years ago.
And then on each "corner" of the ruby, there is a single cut diamond with the four having a total weight 0.08 carats to add that extra sparkle to the ring.
Measuring 8.7mm wide at the centre by 17.1mm across, leading down to the band the ring was beautifully and incredibly hand engraved and then admiring the ring from the side, there is also the most sensational scroll work that like the ruby is just breathtaking.
From every single angle that you look at this ring, it shows the quality of not only how it was made, but also showcases the beautiful ruby sitting proudly in the centre, is one ring that will always be admired every single time that it is worn.

Antique ruby and diamond ring set with an unheated ruby
This antique ring is set with a magnificent natural ruby that measures 1.65 carats and has not undergone any heat (thermal) treatment.
A brief history on heat treating sapphires and rubies:
Sapphires and rubies have been heat treated for centuries to improve their colour and clarity and this is a worldwide accepted practice. It should be clarified that a sapphire or ruby that has undergone some form of heat treatment is still a natural gemstone from the ground and is not a synthetic/man made stone and the treatment is completely stable. Lately on the market there is a technique of glass filling or lead filling stones which will improve the colour of a natural gemstone, however this treatment is very unstable and the stone may look worse in a few years.
