Antique star set diamond ring
$3,600.00
Quite often an antique ring will sit and look so perfect on the finger that many people wont believe its age, and here is a wonderful example of an antique diamond ring that can so easily be worn along with other antique rings as well as modern and fit right in.
Made in 18 carat gold in the Victorian era of the 1890’s, not only is this ring set with three antique mine cut diamonds that total 0.24 carats, but the way they have been set adds so much more charm and character to it.
This setting is called a “star setting” where the beads securing the diamonds to the gold are made in a “star” pattern. Quite often this design is called a gypsy ring, but that is where the diamonds are set into the band without the star design.
And not only is there this feature to the ring, but it also has a slight cutout design on each edge of the top of the ring, as well as that absolutely charming scroll work on the sides.
Measuring 5.9mm wide at the top, and tapering to 2.7mm wide at the back, the way the diamonds are set low and secure into the gold band makes this ring so comfortable to wear all the time, and will be perfect for any occasion.
A truly wonderful example of a ring that is over 130 years old, and is still as beautiful and practical to wear today.

Antique star set diamond ring
Antique star set diamond ring made in the Victorian era of the 1890’s. This ring was made in 18 carat yellow gold and is set with three genuine antique mine cut diamonds.
What are mine cut diamonds?
At the start of the 18th century, a great leap forward emerged with the “invention” of the new 58-facetted diamond. At the time, these were the closest resemblance to today’s brilliant cut diamond. These are referred to as old mine cut diamonds, or “old miners” as well as “cushion cut diamonds” . These were cut often squarish or cushion shaped, with quite a steep angle on the crown and pavilion. This was to maximise weight retention in the diamond. As well as these features, the “old miners” often had quite a large culet or collet, the horizontal base formed by the blunting of a point when the stone is cut as a brilliant.
