Antique sterling silver rectangle locket

$1,400.00

Often it is the small “hidden” meaning in antique jewellery that makes it so special, and here is a lovely antique double sided photo locket from the late Victorian era that is as beautiful as it is romantic.

Made in sterling silver in the 1890’s, the locket is beautifully hand engraved on the front with a beautiful angular design with a swallow in the centre. The swallow was often associated with wishing someone a safe return -usually by sea- and sailors often saw swallows as their boats came closer to shore, and used the swallow in jewellery to represent that their voyage was nearing an end. It is this small but sweet and romantic feature that adds so much more charm to the locket and adds to the passion that people feel for antique jewellery.

Measuring 36.1mm across by 46.8mm or 58.8mm to the top of the bail, inside it will easily hold two photos, that once placed inside, will make this locket even more special and personal to the wearer.

The Victorian era was one of romance, and this locket certainly shows this.
