Art Deco carved rock crystal and diamond pendant

Rock crystal has been used for centuries to be carved into such items as intaglio’s on seals, and here is a true work of art – a reverse intaglio pendant.

Traditionally intaglios are carved down into the surface, whereas this is called a “reverse intaglio” where the design is carved from the back. And what a magnificent design it is. Depicting a woman and a peacock on either side of a fountain, the detail is exceptional and no doubt carved by hand by a true master. The fine detail in the rock crystal will have you admiring it each and every time that you look at it, and then there is the diamond set mount that holds it.

Made in the Art Deco period of the 1920’s in 18 carat yellow gold and platinum, the mount is set with eight rose cut diamonds with a further twenty set into the top section. These diamonds total 0.14 carats, and the pendant itself measures 3.3cm across by 4.6cm, with the mount itself so beautiful and one that compliments the reverse intaglio so well.

This is truly an exquisite example of high quality Art Deco jewellery, and one that is destined to always be treasured and admired.
