The Art Deco era was from the 1920's to the 1940's and was an era of decadence and opulence and was an era in which the design of jewellery was all unto itself.
Using angular designs and shapes, Art Deco jewellery has never gone out of fashion or style.
This particular Art Deco necklace, is made entirely in platinum including the chain.
Platinum is such a fantastic precious metal as it is the purest of all the metals used in jewellery, retains its natural white colour the best and remains incredibly strong even after being drawn into a fine wire.
The centerpiece of this Art Deco necklace is of course the onyx and diamond section at the top leading down the elegant knife edge bar to the onyx and diamond circular disc at the bottom.
Both the black onyx and white diamonds compliment each other so well with the black and white combination, and this was often used and is seen in Art Deco jewellery of the 1920's.
At the top onyx design it is set with 3 sections each set with 4 diamonds that graduate to elegantly in size and set with the fancy shaped black onyx. The diamonds are milgrain set which was a popular technique during the 1920's Art Deco era and is seen as the crimping along the edge of the setting.
Leading down to the lower onyx and diamond section, even this pert is set with a diamond and is expertly hand engraved along the edge, and then of course leads down to the lower round onyx and diamond which is again milgrain set.
This round part measures 10.5mm in diameter, and from the top circle to this lower part measures 5.6cm in length and laid out straight, from end to end it measures 44cm.
Presented in its original velvet lined fitted box, this is without a doubt one of the finest and most regal Art Deco onyx and diamond pieces of jewellery around and a superb testament to the supreme high quality that the jewellers of the Art Deco period were producing.
