Exquisite Art Deco suffragette necklace

The Suffragette movement  that began in the late 1800’s was so pivotal in many things such as giving the right to vote to women, and suffragette jewellery is easily recognisable by being represented by three colours:  green, white and violet, which makes such a wonderful colour combination.

And combine these fabulous colours with a truly decadent necklace of exquisite quality that dates from the 1920’s Art Deco era, then the result is something that is truly fabulous.

This exciting piece was entirely handmade in platinum, and sitting so proudly in the centre is a fabulous amethyst that measures an impressive 8.70 carats in size.  And then looking closely at the setting, on each corner of the amethyst is a charming single cut diamond that not only adds extra sparkle to the necklace, but showcases how much time, care and attention that went into making this all those years ago.

With four square emeralds on each corner that add to the colour, the border is further highlighted with forty four European cut diamonds that total 1.34 carats.

And then there is that fine, incredible work leading out from the amethyst that highlights the beauty of platinum even over white gold. Platinum is the purest of all the precious metals used in jewellery and retains its pure white colour, and this combined with its ability to be drawn into such a fine wire for this highly detailed work, yet still retain its strength, is one of the main factors why jewellers of the Art Deco period embraced the use of platinum in jewellery.

The pendant measures 4.4cm in each direction, and the from end to end, the platinum chain measures 42cm allowing this to sit perfectly on the neckline.
