The Albert chain or fob watch chain as they are also known by, was made to hold a gents pocket watch on a vest, however a full double Albert such as this one here, is today more commonly worn around a woman’s neck were they sit perfectly and really make a statement.
This one was made in the late Victorian era of the 1890's, and was made in 9 carat rose gold. The colour of modern rose gold is so often very pink whereas antique rose gold such as this has that delightful warm tone to it that is so desired and looks amazing set against any skin tone. The colour of the gold is so beautiful and highlights the design on the Albert chain so well.
Measuring a full 53cm in length, this will easily sit around the neck and the link design is just so beautiful to admire from near or far. The long links have so much detail as do the smaller links, and even the tee bar at the centre has a wonderful design and texture to it, rarely seen on tee bars.
From afar, the lovely bold design as well as the colour will make this always be admired, and the closer you get and see all the small detail will continue to amaze all who see it. A truly exceptional antique Albert chain to be worn with pride.

A brief history on Albert chains:
The Albert chain, or Prince Albert chain as it is also known by was designed in the 1800’s for Prince Albert to fit through a waist coat and hold a pocket watch on one end and the key to wind it on the other.
These were often made in sterling silver or gold as well as base metals such as rolled gold and some from the Art Deco era of the 1920’s to the 1940’s being made in platinum or a combination of platinum and gold.
A double length one ie two chains leading to a tee bar is a double Albert and one where the tee bar is at one end and a swivel or bolt ring at the other is known as a half Albert.
However in the early 1900’s with the increase in popularity of wrist watches, the gentleman of the house put these chains down and started to wear the wrist watch and now years later woman wear these around their neck where they are quite often seen today.
