French Art Deco fringe pearl and diamond necklace dating from the mid-1920’s. The fringe necklace is a style of necklace that has been found as far back 300BC. The fringe necklace is a design that is worn close to the neck and incorporates a series of pendants that hang down. The discover of King Tutankhamun’s tomb is 1922 by Howard Carter resulted in the Egyptian style to be embraced by jewellers of the Art Deco period. Jewellery made with an ancient Egyptian style is often called “Egyptian Revival” and this influence can be seen here in this Art Deco fringe necklace. Set with natural pearls and diamonds, the style has both the Art Deco design as well as being influenced by the discoveries of ancient Egypt.
