High grade E. Howard and Co pocket watch in a solid gold case

Edward Howard became known for manufacturing very reliable and fine quality movements, and here is a high grade E. Howard and Co pocket watch in a 9 carat rose gold case that both looks and feels so good to hold in the palm of your hand.

The solid gold case measures 50mm in diameter by 68.2mm to the top of the bow and the white enamel dial not only displays traditional Roman numerals with the sub-seconds at the bottom, but is also free of any cracks, chips or damage.

Then inside is a movement that is glorious to admire and as fine in quality as any high grade Swiss pocket watch.

The 17 jewelled movement has not only been fully serviced, runs perfectly and comes with our twelve month warranty, but also has a high quality Breguet micro-regulator and gold chatons. The regulator can be seen in the lower left of the images of the movement and the gold chatons are the gold rims around the jewels which themselves have three screws drilled in supporting them. These two features alone show the high quality of the movement and hearing and watching it tick is such a delight.

Perfect for any collection or a special gift, this E. Howard pocket watch is beautiful from every angle that you look at it.

Description

High grade E. Howard and Co pocket watch in a solid gold case

With gold chatons, this E. Howard pocket watch has been completely serviced and is in full working condition.

Edward Howard started the Howard Watch Company after the failure of the Boston Watch Company in 1857. He started to produce very high grade pocket watch movements that were signed "E. Howard & Co" on the dials and "Howard & Rice" on the movements.

In 1858 Edward Howard produced the first pocket watch of his own design with the top plate made in two sections and had six pillars instead of the usual four. Balances were made in gold or steel at first, and in later models had bi-metallic compensating balances with gold screws. In 1868 Edward Howard also introduced the first crown winding pocket watch movement, with key wind movements discontinued in 1878. Howard was the first to offer pocket watches that were adjusted to six positions, higher than a chronometer rating by today's standard.
