Ladies Pocket Elgin Watch from 1887
Here is a charming antique pocket watch made by the American company Elgin in 1887 that has just been completely restored and runs beautifully and has a very attractive case to admire.
Made in a rolled gold case that measures 41mm across by 62mm to the top of the bow, the front cover has a very attractive bird diving in on a butterfly, and the reverse side an attractive engrave plate in the section which can be engraved with initials or a monogram.
Opening the front cover shows the beautiful white enamel dial with Roman numerals and sub-seconds at the bottom. This is a crown wind and lever set movement, meaning that the pocket watch is wound via the crown and the time set by sliding out the lever between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions, then turning the hands to set the time.
Elgin were one of the most prolific pocket watch makers who made such vast range of movements from the simple 7 jewel movements to some incredibly high grade movements, and this one has a wonderful high grade 15 jewelled movement that has just been completely serviced by our in-house watchmakers and comes complete with our twelve month warranty.
From the case which is absolutely gorgeous, to the dial and movement, this is a wonderful example of a pocket watch that is well over 130 years old, yet still looks and runs beautifully.
