Rare Tarts verge pair case pocket with calendar made in 1763

It is rare to find an 18ct Century pocket watch in full working order, harder still to find a pair case pocket watch with its original third outer tortoiseshell case, one that has a calendar and near on impossible to find a pocket watch that can tick all of these boxes. So suffice to say, here is an incredible and very rare Tarts verge pair case pocket with calendar made in 1763 that has it all.

Traditionally pair case pocket watches are when there is an outer case protecting the pocket watch itself, so to find one that has its original tortoiseshell and sterling silver inlayed case that protects the "outer" silver case is a real find. The feel and look of the tortoiseshell case has that wonderful chocolate brown colour and is highlighted by the silver hinge and detailing on the front. This outer case measures 58.3mm across by 57.9mm.

Then removing this allows you to see and feel the glorious sterling silver repousssé case that is so tactile to feel and incredible to admire. The front of this case is delightful with the simple yet elegant design, however turning it over reveals that magnificent scene. The amount of time and effort to create this is incredible and alone is such a talking piece. Measuring 50.5mm across by 51mm, it sits so well in the palm of your hand.

And then the last but by no means least inner section. While the sterling silver case is now plain, the dial and inner workings are magnificent. The silver dial is comparable to the repousssé work on the outer case. With those gorgeous hands and dial with both Roman numerals and five minute markers, there is also the calendar function. And then opening it up further shows the spectacular workings of this pocket watch, made all the more incredible to think that it was all hand made over 250 years ago. With the verge escapement, fusee movement and wonderful pierced balance cock as well as its elegant pillars on the side, this pocket watch not only looks incredible, it is also in full working order.

This is an exceptional 18th Century verge pocket watch that has so many incredible features that separates it from a standard pair case pocket watch, and one that will suit any astute and avid collector of fine time pieces.
