Rolex released their now famous, Rolex Prince watch in 1928 and was a stylish rectangular shaped watch that had two independent dials. Hours and minutes were tracked by the larger dial on the top, and seconds were counted on the smaller dial on bottom. This design showed the world the incredible style and innovation by Rolex, and was further developed over the years to include the even rarer and highly regarded Rolex Prince Jump Hour watch that we have here.
This incredible watch has the two dials on top of each other with one major and notable difference to "standard" Rolex Prince watches - the jump-hour at the top.
The top dial has the single hand pointing to the minutes - in this case in the image it is at 47 minutes, and the lower one showing the seconds - again in the image it is at 32 seconds.
However, it is at the very top that this watch makes itself known for its incredible innovation and design. At the top is the hour wheel that turns and displays a single number - again, in the image it is at 1 0'clock, making the watch therefore show the time as 1:47 and 32 seconds.
As can also be seen in one of the images, is the watch as it was after being completely dismantled prior to cleaning and servicing. This has been undertaken by our own in-house watchmaker who himself worked for Rolex until coming to Kalmar Antiques, and this image shows just a glimpse of how thorough a service of a watch can be when done correctly.
Powered by the Rolex Extra Prima movement, the Rolex Prima movements were the first to use a new series of balances for greater accuracy and reliability. First introduced in 1928, they came in three classes, the Prima, Extra Prima, and Ultra Prima manual wind movement. These precise movements were adjusted to 6 positions and at all temperatures, the specification for a chronometer rating.
This is an incredible watch from not only the aesthetic of the case and dial design, but also one that showcases the technical innovations that helped cement the reputation that Rolex have made for themselves over the years.

A brief history on the Rolex Prince:
The Rolex Prince was introduced in 1928 and is now regarded as one of the most groundbreaking watches ever released. The Rolex Prince featured a stylish rectangular shape as well as two easily legible dials. Hours and minutes were tracked by the larger dial on top and seconds were counted on the smaller dial on bottom.
With variations such as having a jump hour, asymmetrical cases, or the quarter century club dial, the Rolex Prince watches also used the highly reliable and accurate Prima movements. These high grade chronometer grade movements were adjusted to 6 positions and have long been regarded as the finest of all movements found in vintage watches pre-1950.
The Rolex Prima movement were the first to use a new series of balances for greater accuracy and reliability. First introduced in 1928, they came in three classes, the Prima, Extra Prima, and Ultra Prima manual wind movement. These precise movements were adjusted to 6 positions and at all temperatures, the specification for a chronometer rating.
A brief history on Rolex Rolesium:
While many associate Rolesium with the Rolex Yachtmaster, this is made with platinum and steel together on a watch, but importantly in separate components to each other. On the top of the Rolesium Yacht-Master 16622 steel case sits a platinum bezel with high polished raised numerals on a sandblasted background. However Rolesium was actually first used by Rolex in 1931 and then remained rather forgotten about its re-introduction in the 1990's Rolex Yachtmaster series.
Where can I service my Rolex watch?
When we expanded and renovated our store in late 2022, we put in not only a full watchmaking and polishing workshop, but a watchmaker who used to work for Rolex for nearly seven years. This allows us to be able to service your Rolex to Rolex standards, as well as other watch brands such as Omega, Cartier and Patek Philippe to name a few.
