Silver rose and green gold antique locket
For centuries gold has been made in different colours by being mixed with other metals when being alloyed. For example rose gold is produced by primarily adding copper to the gold, and years ago green gold was made by adding either silver to the gold or cadmium. The result is a soft green colour that is perfect to highlight characteristics of the piece of jewellery such as in this gorgeous antique bangle.
Made in the the Victorian era of the 1880’s in sterling silver, the front of the locket has a gorgeous hand engraved floral scene which is highlighted with rose gold flower buds and green leaves that highlights the use of green gold so well. With a striking rose gold design to add to the design, this is a gorgeous locket that will make such a wonderful conversation starter.
Measuring 30mm across by 37mm or 53.7mm to the top of the bail, inside the locket can hold two photos that once placed inside will make this locket so much more personal and special to the wearer.
Just as stunning today as when it was made, this is a wonderful example of how unique and special antique jewellery can be.
