This ring captures perfectly the ethos of the Art Deco era of having a "shape in a shape" where there are round diamonds set into other shapes rather than just round.
Hand made in 18 carat yellow gold and platinum in the 1920's, in the centre sits an early round brilliant cut diamond that measures 0.12 carats. However looking closely at the setting around it, the diamond is set into a square setting on its side, that is not only surrounded by four single cut diamonds, but all five of these diamonds are surrounded by a square design.
With a further four single cut diamonds in each corner along with a further eight set into a rectangle setting, these additional diamonds come together to total 0.34 carats, creating a wonderful sparkle to the ring.
Measuring 13.3mm across by 12.6mm and sitting lovely and flat on the finger, this is a wonderful example of just how much thought and attention to detail went into making this ring all those years ago.

What are the advantages of an antique engagement ring? Are antique engagement rings ethical?
In an antique engagement ring, the diamonds have the charm and character of being cut by hand all those years ago, as well as being conflict-free diamonds, making antique jewellery so much more ethical and better for the environment.
What is a European cut diamond?
During the mid 19th century, the old European cut came into focus, and was an attempt to change the old mine cut stones into a more perfect round cut. These stones can be considered as the first true round brilliant cut diamonds. The facets from the old miners were kept in their same position, but changed shape to a more round and evenly shaped stone.
The culets became smaller, as it was realised that light could leak out from this point in the stone. The development of the modern brilliant cut occurred in the early part of the 20thcentury with further modifications through the century. Diamond cutters apply the brilliant cut to other shapes, and this very exacting skill continues to enthrall craftsman and enthusiasts alike.
