Unheat treated 9.43 carat Ceylonese sapphire and diamond Art Deco ring

$28,800.00

Centuries ago, people discovered that if you put a sapphire or ruby into a fire it will improve its colour and clarity, and people have been heat treating sapphires and rubies ever since for this reason. This treatment is worldwide accepted as a normal treatment and not deceiving in any way and is accepted as a standard treatment for sapphires and rubies as it remains stable and does not damage the stone. However set into this ring from the Art Deco era is a very beautiful unheat treated Ceylonese sapphire that displays the most beautiful colour and clarity.

Hand made in 18 carat white gold and platinum in the 1920's,the gorgeous cushion cut sapphire measures an impressive 9.43 carats and has such an magical soft colour to it that looks even more amazing in the sunshine. The colour is perfectly highlighted by the white gold and platinum, and being claw set allows the maximum amount of light to dance throughout the stone. The sapphire has been independently certified by Gem Studies Laboratory stating that it has not undergone any treatment and is a Ceylonese sapphire.

Set on each side are seven single cut diamonds with one further single cut diamond where the split design of the band meets up, bringing the total diamond weight to 0.16 carats, all of which highlight the sapphire even further.

Measuring 21.5mm across by 13.1mm, even from the side of the ring the detail is so beautiful to admire and showcases why Art Deco jewellery is a popular and fashionable today as when it was made.

This is a truly exceptional ring that is destined to always be admired.

Description

Unheat treated sapphire ring

This unheat treated 9.43 carat Ceylonese sapphire and diamond Art Deco ring was hand made in the 1920's.

Why do they heat treat sapphires?

A brief history on heat treating sapphires and rubies:

Sapphires and rubies have been heat treated for centuries to improve their colour and clarity and this is a worldwide accepted practice. It should be clarified that a sapphire or ruby that has undergone some form of heat treatment is still a natural gemstone from the ground and is not a synthetic/man made stone and the treatment is completely stable. Lately on the market there is a technique of glass filling or lead filling stones which will improve the colour of a natural gemstone, however this treatment is very unstable and the stone may look worse in a few years.
