Here is an ingenious Victorian era antique amethyst and pearl pendant that converts to a brooch so easily and no matter which way it is worn, will always be loved for the gorgeous colour combination of the pearls and amethysts as well as the elegant design that will always be admired.
Hand made in 9 carat rose gold in the 1890's, this piece is set with a beautiful cluster of seed pearls surrounding a central amethyst with more amethysts around the edge and then one suspended so delicately at the bottom that is also set with seed pearls.
The top bail which is again set with a seed pearl, is attached via a clever design that allows it to easily be taken on and off, all the while being very secure and not able to come off on its own. The reason this part detaches, is that when it is worn as a brooch, if this part sticks up, it will look very odd, so detaching it makes perfect sense.
Measuring 26.1mm across, with the top bail it measures 47.4mm tall or 36.5mm without this part. These dimensions make it perfect for a pendant or a brooch and regardless of how you choose to wear it, there is no doubt that it will always be admired as the combination of pearls and amethysts, along with the elegant design, will always make this such a stand out piece of jewellery from the late Victorian era.
