Tudor was a subsidiary of Rolex in 1926 and was a watch designed to be sold at a lower price than Rolex yet all the while being highly accurate and to follow in the name of a Rolex watch and the early Tudor watches still had their cases, case backs, crowns and bracelets made by Rolex and were signed “Rolex†yet used a different movement inside, and this is the case for this great looking vintage Tudor Prince Oysterdate Big Rose reference 7990/4.
Dating from 1968, this is one of the more rarer models of Tudor Prince Oysterdate watches that come on the market for a few reasons.
Firstly as it was made in the 1960's it has the large rose over the word Tudor on the dial, and this is often known as the "Big Rose" as subsequent models used the smaller rose.
Secondly it has the full Rolex Oyster bracelet complete with the Rolex buckle. Again later models used the Rolex made Oyster band but changed the buckle to have Tudor on it instead. The end links are numbered 357 which is correct for this model and the Oyster links are the fabulous fold over design.
And then it has the roulette date wheel that changes from black numbers on odd numbered days to red on even numbered days, hence the term "Roulette" date wheel.
The Rolex Oyster case still has the screw down Rolex crown and Rolex case back and measures 34mm across plus the crown and is surprisingly larger on the wrist than it would seem.
Inside is the incredibly reliable 25 jewelled calibre 2484 that runs beautifully and comes with our twelve month warranty.
This is a great looking and sought after Tudor Prince Oysterdate that will always look so good on the wrist.
