Made in the Victorian period of the 1870's, it was made in 18 carat yellow gold and measures 32.5mm across by 23mm wide and has the most wonderful and intricate detail that is a real testament to the quality of jewellery that could be produced well over 150 years ago.

Rare antique Regard brooch with a hidden compartment

Acrostic jewellery is the term given where the first letter of each gemstone "spells" out a word, such as can be seen here in this very rare antique Regard brooch with a hidden compartment.

Antique yellow gold double sided REGARD photo locket

Here is an absolutely gorgeous antique yellow gold double sided REGARD photo locket, that dates from the 1870's and still retains its original photos inside.

"Regard" jewellery is often where the first letter of each gemstone "spells" out the word Regard, however with this locket the word "Regard" is spelt out in such a wonderful font along the edge of the locket.

The font is so beautiful to admire and then there is also both sides of the locket which are exquisitely hand engraved. Made in 9ct yellow gold, the detail in the engraving is wonderful and so much finer than machine engraved or just stamped out in huge numbers.

The locket measures 21.4mm in diameter and the photo sections 15.5mm in diameter. Complete with its original photographs, they really add so much charm and character. While these photographs can easily be taken out and replaced, we thought it best to keep them and let the new owner decide to remove the photos, put their new photos over the top, or simply leave them in place.

With the wonderful hand engraving on the outside making this alone such a gorgeous piece to wear around your neck, to the lovely photos inside and of course the word "Regard" on the rim, this is such a beautiful and unique antique locket that is a real treasure.

Antique Regard brooch from the 1840's

Acrostic jewellery is where the piece of jewellery has gemstones that "spell" out a word and here is one of the finest examples with this antique Regard brooch from the 1840's.

Set with a ruby, emerald, garnet, amethyst, ruby and a diamond, the first letter of each gemstone spells the word "Regard", and this would have been given to a loved one with such a romantic sentiment attached without it being too obvious.

Made in the very early Victorian period, this Regard brooch is exquisitely made in 18ct yellow gold with the most divine detail around the border and the gemstones. Then in the centre there is a locket of woven hair which adds to the charm and character of an already very romantic Regard brooch. This would not have been a mourning brooch as there is no black or inscription as was typical for such a piece and during the Victorian times, jewellery made from hair was so popular it even surpassed the price of silver per ounce and was highly sought after to be fashioned into jewellery.

The brooch measures 27.3mm across by 20.6mm and turning the brooch over reveals the most magnificent and highly detailed hand engraving.

This is one of the finest antique Regard brooches around and one that is in equally superb condition.
