Magnificent antique gold cased earrings from the Victorian era
Here are a fabulous pair of antique gold cased drop earrings that date from the Victorian era and looks spectacular on the ear and will no doubt always be admired every single time that they are worn. Gold cased jewellery is also known as rolled gold and was first invented in Birmingham England in 1785 and was the process of having a a thick sheet of gold that was then soldered to a sheet of brass then rolled out to a thin sheet that was subsequently used for making jewellery. Being very hard wearing and durable allowed it to also be engraved and this process should not be confused with gold plating which although it can be very built up in thick layers, is not as hard wearing as gold filled. These earrings measure 19.4mm across at the lower section by 48.8mm to the top of the shepherd hooks, and the inside sections are not only of a facetted design, but are also able to move independently from the outer section adding to the allure and charm of them.
