Antique pique brooch from the 1870’s.

Pique jewellery was common in the later part of the Georgian era right up to the end of the Victorian era of the 1890's and was made by inlaying tortoiseshell with gold and silver in such a fine and incredibly intricate design as can be seen here in this pique brooch. Victorian pique drop earrings
For all of you pique jewellery lovers out there, here is a wonderful pair of Victorian era pique drop earrings in the form of a Maltese cross. Pique is the use of gold and silver inlayed into tortoiseshell and was very popular in the Georgian and Victorian times. These antique pique earrings are made in the shape of two Maltese crosses and measure 3.7cm from the very bottom to the top of the shepherd hooks by 2.1cm wide at the lower cross. There are reproduction antique jewellery around today, however due to tortoiseshell now being banned, there will never be reproduction pique jewellery making it so sought after, unique and special.
