Rhoda Wager was a very influential jeweller in Australia between the 1920's and the 1940's and with most of her jewellery being made in silver, it is both exciting and wonderful to find a signed Rhoda Wager brooch in both sterling silver and gold. Measuring 43.6mm across by 26.8mm, the size alone of this brooch makes it sure to always be noticed, and with not only the fabulous style that is so indicative of her work, the large carnelian in the centre truly stands out perfectly against the silver and gold. It is this wonderful work on the sides that makes her jewellery so distinct and sought after, and her use of gold in this brooch leads to not only a very skilled hand, but a piece that was made towards the end of her career when she had both the talent and skill to combine silver and gold. Finding a signed piece by her in gold and silver is truly exciting and makes it not only a wonderful brooch, but a fabulous piece of Australian jewellery. Day or night, this brooch will always stand out and be such a wonderful talking piece making any woman who wears this, very proud indeed. Stock# ES9733 Maker: Rhoda Wager Circa: 1940 $Sold.
Here is a very beautiful sterling silver opal doublet ring attributed to Rhoda Wager, and dating from the 1930's. Rhoda Wager was born in England in 1875 and moved to Australia and set up her own jewellery workshop producing pieces of jewellery in the form of rings, bracelets, necklaces and brooches between 1921 to 1946 and here we have a fabulous ring that can easily be attributed to her. Even though her rings were not signed with her mark, she had such a distinct style with her designs and her somewhat "signature hallmark" of the double bands put on rings such as with this one here, that this can so easily be attributed to her. Measuring 18.6mm across by 19.5mm, in the centre is a gorgeous opal doublet that has such amazing and intense spectral colours emanating from it that looks more and more beautiful the closer you get to it. With a wonderful vine design wrapping around the border leading to her signature double band, this is a wonderful piece of Australian jewellery by one of Australia's more sought after jewellers. It is so lovely to find early Australian jewellery from Rhoda wager, and here is a very beautiful and rare signed Rhoda Wager silver brooch dating from the 1930's that measures an astonishing 9.2cm in length. Rhoda Wager was one of Australia’s leading jewellers of the early 20th century, producing beautiful pieces often in silver that had a very natural flowing style as can be seen here in this brooch. Made in sterling silver, it is set with mabe pearl in the centre. Also known as blister pearls, these are produced as a section of the oyster shell itself, rather than from an irritant inside the oyster which produces a traditional pearl. The lovely lustre on this mabe pearl is still so vibrant and accentuates the silver beautifully. Measuring 1.7cm wide at the centre, the reverse side is signed “Wager” and this is really a way that you can wear a piece of Australian history that is not only important, but equally as beautiful. This is a lovely and hard to find signed brooch by the famous Australian artist Rhoda Wager. Stock# ES8220 Maker: Rhoda Wager Circa: 1940 $Sold
