18ct gold ring from the Georgian era of the early 1800’s

$0.00

Here is a fantastic antique 18ct gold ring from the Georgian era of the early 1800’s that has such a simple yet amazing design and one that looks so beautiful and regal on the finger.

It’s incredible to think that this ring is over 200 years old and still in amazing condition and one that will certainly be a conversation starter.

In the centre is a smokey quartz that has been foil backed. This technique of foil backing, was where the jeweller took a stone either natural or man-made, and put a sliver of foil behind the closed setting. This would allow for the foil to reflect through the stone to help enhance the sparkle of the stone. Typical of the Georgian period this style of jewellery is so sought after.

Quartz of which smokey quartz, amethyst, citrine and rock crystal all come from, is considered the level for a gemstone that is durable enough to be worn all the time. With a hardness of 7 on the Moh’s scale of hardness, anything below this is considered soft, and anything above much more durable. This is why rock crystal for example was often used for seals and intaglios during this time.

The stone itself measures 11.3mm across by 9.1mm and is sitting atop a lovely band with the remnants of very beautiful hand engraving.

This is a lovely genuine antique ring from the Georgian era, and one that will always be admired for its design as well as longevity.
