1972 IWC Yacht Club

$5,350.00

The Yacht Club from IWC is one of their most iconic and sought after watches, and when you see this vintage IWC on your wrist, you will see why.

The IWC Yacht Club was released in 1967 and was powered inside by the famous and highly regarded IWC calibre 8541B, and this one was made in 1972, and looks as stylish today as when it was made.

The IWC calibre 8541b which powers this watch, was designed by Albert Pellaton who was the technical director of IWC, and features an ingenious system that included the ability for the automatic rotor to wind the watch regardless of which direction the rotor was turning. Fitted with a micro-regulator to guarantee accuracy and this among various other features make this one of the most accurate and well regarded watch movements in any watch back then and even today more than 50 years later. This movement is regarded as one of the best movements ever produced not only by IWC but any watchmaking company in the world. Just back from our in-house watchmaker, it runs perfectly and comes with our twelve month warranty.
The stainless steel case measures 36mm across plus the IWC crown, and is one watch that sits so well on the wrist, while all the time looking so indicative of the 1970's when it was made thanks to the tonneau shaped case.
The dial has the transitional dial from the iconic "International Watch Company Schaffhausen" written in its Italic style font combined with the upper case IWC and has the date window and centre sweep seconds.

The IWC Yacht Club is still regarded as one of their finest watches ever made, thanks in part to its iconic case design and superb movement, making it as stylish today as when it was first launched all those years ago.

What is the IWC Yacht Club?

A brief history on the IWC Yacht Club:
First launched at the Basel Watch Show in 1967, the Yacht Club was focused on precision, durability and utility. It also had a great looking tonneau shaped design which became an instant hit. One of its best-selling features was a shock system involving spring suspension with rubber bumpers for the movement, thus "isolating" it, a major innovation for the brand. The Yacht Club became IWC's most popular model during this time.

Inside the original Yacht Club was the Calibre 8541 with date display and Pellaton bi-directional winding system. The stainless steel Yacht Club was water resistant to 100m and 60m for the gold version. This was achieved via a crown mechanism that automatically tightened the seals as water pressure increased.

The superb IWC calibre 8541B which is regarded as one of the best movements ever produced not only by IWC but any watchmaking company in the world. This IWC movement was designed by Albert Pellaton who was the technical director of IWC, and this automatic movement has an ingenious system that included the ability for the automatic rotor to wind the watch regardless of which direction the rotor was turning. Fitted with a micro-regulator to guarantee accuracy and this among various other features make this one of the most accurate and well regarded watch movements in any watch back then and even today more than 40 years later.
