Here is such a poignant antique bloodstone seal engraved with a beautiful sentiment on the base written in French, "Ne Moubliez Paz" which translates to "Forget me not" and even though the history of who owned this seal all those years ago is lost, it is nice to think that this was a gift given to a lover so they would continue to remember one another fondly.
Seals have been used for centuries to literally "seal" an envelope with wax to prevent the letter from being opened and read, as once the seal is broken, the true recipient of the letter would know that someone else had read it before them.
This one dates from the 1870's and was made in 15ct rose gold and measures a very sweet 20mm high by 11.4mm wide and 12.8mm deep. This would allow htis to sit so well on a chain around the neck or even as a wonderful and very unique charm on a bracelet.
The base is set with bloodstone which was carved with the sentiment as well as a flower - a forget me not flower - as one would expect making this even more sweet and romantic.
Not only is this so elegant and full of charm, but it will also be such a wonderful talking point as well as being able to take you back to a bygone era.

Antique bloodstone seal engraved with a beautiful sentiment
Brief history on seals.
For centuries, letters have been closed, hot wax dripped onto the back of the envelope, and a seal pressed into the still warm was leaving an imprint of the seal. This would prevent anyone from opening the seal as once opened, this would break the wax seal.
Often the seals were engraved with an intaglio of a family crest or initials that would further prevent the letter being opened then re-sealed by someone else.
