Duggin Shappere and Co were one of Australia’s most famous jewellers starting in Melbourne in 1896 and became well known for Australian themed jewellery which has become highly collectable jewellery that is so sought after today, and here is an amazing antique brolga gem set brooch.
Made in 15 carat gold in the form of a brolga, which is from the crane family and found in Australian wetlands, the brooch measures 40mm by 55.5mm across and will look incredible on any outfit that it is worn on.
Set with a total of seventy nine seed pearls, five rubies, ten green demantoid garnets and a rose cut diamond held in its beak. Garnets are commonly known found in a beautiful rich burgundy-red colour, however they come in a range of other colours such as orange, pink and of course as can be seen here green. The green demantoid garnets are one of the rarest gemstones in the world, and set amongst the pearls and rubies really stands out so well.
With so much detail that seems to give this bird the appearance of flight, this is a very beautiful and rare brooch by one of Australia’s most famous jewellers.
