The buckle ring design was a popular motif during the late Victorian period of the 19th Century and here we have a very solid and fabulous antique buckle ring set with a diamond.
Made in 18ct yellow gold in 1898 in Birmingham England, this ring has such a wonderful feel and heft to it. Measuring 10mm wide at the buckle section, sitting proudly is a wonderful old cut diamond that measures 0.35 carats and sparkles brilliantly.
This is a ring that would suit a man or a woman and in recent years we have sold many of these designs as engagement rings as well.
With the weight and colour of solid 18ct gold, the sparkle of the diamond and a wearing a ring that is well over 110 years old, all of this goes to making a wonderful and special antique ring for any person, any occasion and any finger.

What is a European cut diamond?
During the mid 19th century, the old European cut came into focus. This was an attempt to change the old mine cut stones into a more perfect round cut. These stones can be considered as the first true round brilliant cut diamonds. The facets from the old miners were kept in their same position, but changed shape to a more round and evenly shaped stone.
The culets became smaller, as it was realised that light could leak out from this point in the stone. The development of the modern brilliant cut occurred in the early part of the 20thcentury, with further modifications through the century. Diamond cutters apply the brilliant cut to other shapes, and this very exacting skill continues to enthrall craftsman and enthusiasts alike.
