Duggin Shappere & Co were one of Australia's most prolific and highly regarded jewellers of the late 19th and 20th century, and here is a fabulous antique butterfly brooch made by Duggin Shappere & Co in the early 1900's. Hand made in 15 carat rose gold, the brooch was so well thought out when being made with such high attention to detail to parts such as its antenna and legs, to the way the pearls graduate so elegantly along the wings. In total there are twenty pearls set on each side as well as the two rubies for its eyes and of course the two solid opals that make up its body. The opals have so much life and fire to them and not only accentuate the brooch as a whole, but also showcases beautiful antique Australian jewellery with beautiful Australian opals. Measuring 22.4mm by 38mm across, this makes it the perfect size to wear all the time, for both day and evening time where it will no doubt always be admired.
