Often antique cameos depicted Roman Gods and Goddesses, and here is a lovely hand carved antique cameo of Aurora the Goddess of dawn.
Also known as Eos in Greek Mythology she renews herself every morning announcing the arrival of the sun.
Her siblings were Sol (also known as Helios in Greek) who represented the Sun and Luna (also known as Selena in Greek) who represented the Moon.
This cameo of Aurora was carved from shell and shows her riding her horse drawn chariot across the sky.
Surrounding the cameo is the most intricate mount made in 9ct rose gold.
The mount is so wonderfully made with a floral motif of leaves and flowers and the mount itself measures 50mm across by 38.5mm and is fitted with a safety chain for added security.
Antique cameos are so individual and full of character and this one is just delightful from the scene to the mount itself that is holding it.
